The Scandinavians were out in force as the EPT rolled into Copenhagen, bringing 460 players to this poker hotbed. Aggression was the name of the game as some of Europe's toughest players battled it out for more than €3 million in cash. Left standing at the end was Tim Vance from the USA, who qualified via a free satellite on PokerStars and went home a dollar millionaire.
The tournament turned on the most dramatic of hands. Denmark’s Kristian Pedersen had moved all-in on QJ8 flop, raising Vance out of his seat. As the cameras crowded round, he paced the table, thinking out loud. “Ace-King,” he told himself, “you must to have Ace-King.” Holding only pocket nines with his tournament life on the line, Vance made the call of his life. Pedersen flipped over A-K and Vance erupted, pumping his fist in celebration. His nines held up, giving him a dominant chip lead.
It wasn't over yet. Vance had to endure the longest final table in EPT history, including an epic four hour heads up battle, on his way to the title. Exhausted but exhilarated, the man from St. Louis had turned his PokerStars FPP into $1.2 million.
