With poker booming across Germany, it was another full house in Dortmund for EPT4. Putting up €8,000 in cash or winning a seat online, 411 of Europe's best players battled it out for their share of a massive €3.1 million prize pool. Young Canadian hotshot Mike McDonald took down the €933,000 first prize, beating Germany’s Andreas Gulunay in convincing style.
Better known as ‘Timex’ on PokerStars, McDonald is a deadly online player, and in the live tournament arena he looked more confident and sharper than anyone at the final table. Setting traps and picking off bluffs at will, McDonald was playing near-perfect poker. After despatching German contender Johannes Strassmann early on, he dominated the final table, eliminating four of the remaining players on his way to the title.
Amongst the players in Dortmund were Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Noah Boeken and PCA Champion Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, who joined 96 players who won their seats online at PokerStars.
